Possible New Director for Mexico City's Metro System

The Morena party supports Adrián Rubalcava as the potential new director of the Metro following Guillermo Calderón's resignation. Expectations rise as the decision is anticipated.

Possible New Director for Mexico City's Metro System

The Morena bench in the Congress of Mexico City approved the possible arrival of Adrián Rubalcava to the direction of the Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro, after the resignation letter of Guillermo Calderón was leaked, a situation that will be confirmed on May 5.

Brenda Ruiz, a deputy for Cuajimalpa, the district where Rubalcava was mayor from 2018 to 2024, commented that so far they do not have official information about the change in the STC Metro, but expressed that it would be a wise decision if the former PRI member joins 4T. Ruiz mentioned that the Head of Government, Clara Brugada, always chooses the best profile and, if the appointment is true, Rubalcava will play an excellent role.

According to Brenda Ruiz, should Rubalcava's arrival be confirmed, the Head of Government will appoint the best profile to lead the Metro. In recent weeks, Rubalcava's supporters on social media shared videos of him inspecting the rehabilitation works of the STC Metro, issues that were previously avoided by Clara Brugada.

Adrián Rubalcava, a former member of the PRI, met in February 2025 with President Claudia Sheinbaum and expressed his interest in joining her work team, which did not materialize. Currently, Rubalcava could be presented as the new director of the Metro, taking the position left by Guillermo Calderón and Florencia Serranía, criticized for the collapse of Line 12 on Avenida Tláhuac and the delays on Line 1.

In recent hours, a resignation letter from Guillermo Calderón, the outgoing Metro director, was leaked, dated May 5, 2025. In the letter, Calderón expresses his irrevocable resignation without detailing the reasons that lead him to leave the position. Despite Clara Brugada's request for him to remain in office until the completion of the rehabilitation works on Line 1, Calderón decided to resign.
